Christmas Lights - Coldplay

Coldplay are bringing fans some holiday cheer this season in the form of their new song, 'Christmas Lights'.
But while the British rock band's devotees may be rejoicing, the song itself is sung from a brokenhearted perspective.
"Christmas night, another fight / Tears we cried aflood / Got all kinds of poisoning / I've poison in my blood / Took my feet, to Oxford street / Trying to right a wrong / 'Just walk away,' those windows sing / But I can't believe she's gone / When you're still waiting for the snow to fall, it doesn't really feel like Christmas at all."

In 2007, Coldplay posted a cover of the Pretenders' '2000 Miles' on their website, saying, "We love Christmas songs, but every time we try and write one it's awful. So we cover them. Well, once or twice actually. The one song I would most liked to have written is 'Fairytale of New York' by de bloody Pogues of Ireland." The band also recorded 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' for the 'Maybe This Christmas' compilation in 2002, but 'Christmas Lights' marks the first original holiday tune the rockers have released to date.
